Man with loaded .380-caliber weapon arrested after traffic stop near Boone Gate

Shannon Montgomery

A man with a loaded .380-caliber weapon was arrested after a traffic stop near the Boone Gate on the Historic Side of The Villages.

Shannon L. Montgomery, 20, of Ocala had been driving a speeding vehicle at 2:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

He admitted he had been smoking marijuana.

A search of his vehicle turned up a Lorcin handgun tucked under the driver’s set. The gun had a round in the chamber. A bag containing additional rounds of ammunition was found in the glove compartment.

He did not have a concealed weapons permit.

He was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.
