A man was arrested after allegedly punching holes in walls in nearly every room in a house in the Village of Summerhill.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 5:31 p.m. Thursday to the Sonrise Cafe at Southern Trace Plaza where a 68-year-old man reported that he had been attacked in his home on Eastmont Court by 29-year-old Michael James Maffia, who also resides there.
The older man returned home at about 4 p.m. and discovered that Maffia had punched holes in the walls of nearly every single room.
The man said he was going to call 911, but Maffia pushed him and prevented him from using his phone. Each time he tried to make the call, Maffia would push him away, according to the arrest report. After 10 minutes, he was finally able to get away.
A deputy went to the residence and observed the holes in the walls.
He arrested Maffia on charges of battery on a person over the age of 65 and depriving use of 911. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
He had previously been arrested for domestic battery in 2012.
