Man arrested in Lowe’s parking lot after traffic stop for not wearing seatbelt

Robert Anthony Morgan

A 32-year-old Weirsdale man was arrested after a traffic stop Monday night in the parking lot of Lowe’s on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake.

Robert Anthony Morgan had been driving a silver Ford van at 9:40 p.m. when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

During a traffic stop, the deputy detected a “very strong odor of marijuana coming from within the van,” according to the arrest report.

Morgan refused to identify himself and was “hostile” toward the deputy, the arrest report indicated.

Morgan refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be removed by the deputy who then put him in handcuffs.

Morgan was arrested on charge of resisting arrest and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.
