An intoxicated Villager was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a landscaping crew in the Village of Dunedin.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called Tuesday afternoon to a home on Pickering Path where two landscapers were taking cover, one of them behind a trailer. They said that 68-year-old Michael Anthony Oleszczak had come out of his home at 950 Pickering Path, pointed a 9mm semi-automatic gun at them and asked, “Are you done yet?”
The crew had been working at a home next door.
Oleszczak was unsteady on his feet and appeared to be drunk, according to the arrest report.
When deputies arrived, the Michigan native was standing in the foyer of his Designer home clutching the weapon. Deputies told him to put down the gun and he complied.
The landscapers said Oleszczak, who purchased his home in 2015, had confronted them three times with the gun. At first they kept working and tried to finish up the job.
“The third time the defendant pointed the firearm at the two victims and they scattered, fearing for their safety due to the close proximity they were to the defendant and his irrational behavior,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.
Oleszczak was arrested on two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as misdemeanor charges of using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and improper exhibition of a firearm.
Oleszczak was taken to The Villages Regional Hospital, where he was medically cleared.
He was then booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released at about 9:30 p.m. that night after posting $5,500 bond.
