Intoxicated Villager accused of groping service station clerk

A Village of Silver Lake man will have to appear in court next month to answer to a charge that he groped a service station clerk.

Keith Nicholas Barnum, 38, of 730 Roseapple Ave., allegedly was hanging around the Circle K gas station on the Historic Side of The Villages at about 2:30 a.m. July 18. When the clerk stepped outside Barnum “began smacking her buttocks and touching her thigh area,” according to a report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She repeatedly asked him to stop. At one point he asked her to pull down her pants and have sex with him, the report indicated. She had no previous relationship with Barnum and did not know him.

When police arrived, Barnum admitted he had been drinking.

Barnum was charged with battery and issued a criminal notice to appear in court on Aug. 3. He was also ordered to stay off the Circle K property.
