Hundreds line up early for opening of new Stein Mart department store

Sue Schroeder loved to shop at Stein Mart when she lived in Atlanta. When she moved to The Villages, she had to trek to Gainesville or Altamonte Springs to shop at Stein Mart.

So she wrote to the regional Stein Mart manager, asking for a Stein Mart in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown. The regional manager wrote back, saying she would think about it.

So it was with great eagerness early Thursday morning, that Schroeder lined up with a couple of hundred other people to be among the first to enter the new Stein Mart at Lady Lake Crossing shopping center.

Schroeder saved a place in line for her friend Eileen Manley who moved to The Villages from Plymouth, Mich. Manley brought along her sister, Teresa Pizzino, who is closing next week on her home in The Villages.

Pizzino, in particular, was in the mood to shop, eager to fill up her new home.

The first 200 people who lined up for Stein Mart’s opening were each given a $5 to a $50 gift card. One lucky person in the mix, received a $200 gift card.
