Heavy sprinkler usage floods sections of golf cart path in The Villages

Heavy sprinkler usage has flooded sections of golf cart paths in The Villages.

Golf carts were traveling with some trepidation Saturday through some flooded sections of the multi-modal path that runs parallel to County Road 466A. At one deeply flooded area, deep ruts could be found in the grass where golf carts were deliberately traveling off the path to try to avoid the flood waters.

Heavy sprinkler usage has flooded portions of the multi-modal path that run parallel to County Road 466A.

The irrigation systems along the multi-modal paths have been running steadily in an attempt to bring down the water levels in the storm drainage basins. The water retention areas throughout The Villages are above the recommended level and must be lowered, according to the District Property Management Department in The Villages.

Deep ruts are in the grass where golf carts have traveled off the multi-modal path to avoid the flooded area.

These measures are in place to make room for more rain water, which is collected from the streets, yards and golf courses, should there be a second rain event coming.

Several golf courses have been forced to close because there is too much water:

• Orange Blossom

• Hacienda – All 27

• Evan’s Prairie – All 27

• Belle Glade – Calusa only

• Bonifay – Pensacola only

• Hilltop

• Escambia

• Sweetgum

• Heron

• Sandhill
