The Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group will look to Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. for advice on the future of speed bumps on the multi-modal paths in The Villages.
The majority of representatives from Community Development Districts 1 through 10 and the Amenity Authority Committee who met Thursday morning at Savannah Center said their residents are opposed to speed bumps. Those residents are concerned about the toll the speed bumps take on their physical health as well as their golf carts.
District Manager Janet Tutt suggested she could ask Richard Busche of Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. to come speak to the group about speed bumps. Busche has been involved in the development of the multi-modal paths in The Villages for more than a decade.
Community Development District 8 Supervisor Dennis Hayes said he would like to see Kimley-Horn offer a position paper on speed bumps.
At least two supervisors on the Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group indicated it would be wrong to simply give in to the roar of residents who oppose speed bumps.
“We need to have the experts look at it,” said CDD 10 Supervisor Don Wiley.
CDD 7 Supervisor Ron Ruggeri said that while many residents oppose speed bumps, the speed bumps still serve a purpose.
“We need something to slow people down,” Ruggeri said.
Last year, Richard Busche offered his expert opinion to the Multi-Modal Discussion Group on the issue of side striping, which the group ultimately rejected.
“It’s a balancing act trying to deal with Villages-wide issue,” warned CDD 8 Supervisor Duane Johnson. “Let’s not have another striping issue.”
Johnson does not serve on the Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group but was in the audience Thursday.
“Once we have the expert opinion, let’s do some consensus building,” Johnson advised.
