A golf cart stolen from a Villages golf course was recovered with a suspicious coat of new paint.
A 2006 green dump-bed style Club Car golf cart owned by ASG Solutions had been stolen from Redfish Run Executive Golf Course located in the Village of Buttonwood.
Lady Lake police at about 9:30 a.m. Monday spotted a golf cart traveling north on the southbound side of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 not far from the Microtel hotel.
The driver of the golf cart was identified as 23-year-old Hunter L. Stanley of Wildwood. It was determined that he was wanted on Marion County warrants charging him with burglary and felony theft.
The golf cart was freshly painted silver and “the paint was still tacky,” according to the arrest report.
Lady Lake police made contact with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, whose detectives were investigating the theft of the golf cart from Redfish Run. It was identified as the missing golf cart, which was valued at $8,500.
Stanley was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the Lake County Jail on $19,000 bond.
In 2017, Stanley had been arrested by Lady Lake police on a charge of heroin possession.
