A 25-year-old former server at Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Pinellas Plaza has been sentenced in the theft last year of more than $4,000 from the popular burger restaurant.

Michelle Ann Powell of Summerfield was charged with felony fraud following her arrest this past September by Wildwood police.

She was accused of taking the money between June 1 and Sept. 29. Powell would void all tickets in which customers had paid in cash and she would keep the cash for herself, the arrest report indicated.

The large number of voided sales made management suspicious. Upon further investigation, the voided transactions were traced back to Powell.

This past week in Sumter County Court, Powell was sentenced to three years probation in connection with the case.
