Fishermen cited for trespassing after crossing Villagers’ property

Ten trespass notices have been issued to fishermen who have traveled through residential property at the Edgewater Bungalows and Bridgeport at Lake Sumter to go fishing.

District Manager Janet Tutt said the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has been aggressively trying to stop fishermen from traveling across Villagers’ properties.

The fishermen cited were not Villagers, she noted.

However, the trespass rule would apply to Villagers and non-Villagers alike, she said.

She noted that one of the fishermen, was arrested when he tried to access the fishing spot after he had already been cited.

No fishing signs have been posted in the area.
