Firefighters had to cut off the door of a mini-van to free the driver from wreckage after a crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

Sumter County Fire & EMS responded to the scene of the accident at about 1 p.m. Saturday on I-75 near the 318 Mile Marker, north of Bushnell. Units arrived to find the van, with three occupants, had slid off the road and into the tree line.

The back seat occupant was unrestrained and was experiencing chest pain. The driver complained of chest, shoulder, and hip pain. The third occupant was uninjured. Units had to clear a path through the brush to make access to the driver.  Due to the driver’s injuries and damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, crews had to remove the driver’s door to make access and remove the patient. The back seat passenger was secured to a back board and removed through the rear hatch of the vehicle. All the patients were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The roadway was wet due to rain.
