The FBI Jacksonville Division is working with local and state law enforcement to locate a 54-year-old man after suspicious incidents at two Lake County schools.

Mehmet M. Alkan was observed outside Umatilla High School and Umatilla Middle School on Wednesday and was questioned by school administrators who thought something suspicious was taking place.
He had been spotted taking pictures outside of the high school and then got into a car and drove away when a school official asked him what he was doing, according to information provided by law enforcement. When he was spotted at the middle school, Alkan provided names of students he said attended the school for whom he was taking pictures. The names could not be found in the school’s database.
Alkan is not suspected of any specific crime.
However, after further review of the information he provided, the FBI in cooperation with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, is interested in speaking with him further.
“We are working with state and local law enforcement agencies to locate him at this time,” said Amanda Warford Videll of the FBI.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 352-343-2101.
