Father shoots, kills adult son at home in Marianna Villas

A father shot and killed his adult son Wednesday night at a home in the Marianna Villas in the Villages of Collier.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a call at 7:35 p.m. in reference to a shooting that occurred in the Village of Collier.

Deputies responded to the scene where they determined a father shot his adult son. The son was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robert Tyrrell Jr., is flanked by his parents, Robert and Billie Jo Tyrrell.

The son has been identified as 37-year-old Robert Tyrrell Jr. He was visiting his parents, Robert and Billie Jo Tyrrell.

The father reportedly told authorities he was acting in self defense.

“This is an ongoing investigation, at this time no charges have been filed,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement issued Thursday morning.

Robert and Billie Jo Tyrrell purchased their home in The Villages in 2014.
