Famous Villages waterfall stops flowing with water table down 10 inches

Plentiful rain that fell Friday and Saturday should benefit thirsty lawns, but there’s still a long way to go to make up for Mother Nature’s shortfall of rain.

Last month, in a Welcome Wednesday meeting at the Villages District Office, it was announced that the area’s water table is down more than 10 inches. Officials urged residents to reduce their water usage, noting that grass is dormant now, and watering should be restricted to once a week.

In November, Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management announced that plant replacement in The Villages was being put on hold due to the drought. However, he noted at that time that the replacement of annuals would still be occurring.
