Doctor nabbed in prostitution sting hires lawyer who defended man in I-75 deaths

The orthopedic surgeon arrested earlier this month in a prostitution sting has hired an attorney who defended a man involved in a 2014 accident that claimed the life of a Properties of The Villages salesman.

Dr. Peter Mulhern, who has an office in Lady Lake, was arrested Aug. 5 after he thought he set up a rendezvous with a prostitute at the Wildwood Sleep Inn. Turned out it was an undercover Sumter County sheriff’s deputy. You can read more about the arrest HERE

The 60-year-old doctor has retained Ocala criminal defense attorney Bobby Rumalla to represent him.

The former prosecutor defended Troy Thomas Owens in the aftermath of a 2014 accident on Interstate 75 which claimed the life of George Phillips who sold homes in The Villages, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Richard and tow truck operator John Duggan. Owens escaped criminal prosecution in the case, but he lost his license for six months and was fined $1,000. At the time, family members said they were disappointed with the outcome in the case.
