A burglary suspect was arrested this morning thanks to a Villager’s surveillance system and the suspect’s distinctive tattoo.
Kenneth Andrew Weatherwax, 32, who lives in the Natchez Villas, is facing felony charges of burglary and grand theft following his arrest at 8:59 a.m. Friday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.
Weatherwax was caught on video surveillance entering the garage of a home on Latta Court in the Village of Sunset Pointe at about 9 p.m. on April 13. Surveillance showed Weatherwax enter a vehicle parked in the garage and remove a Garmin GPS. He returned a few seconds later to retrieve a charging cord for the GPS, the arrest report indicated.
He also got into a second vehicle in the garage in search of valuables.
A distinctive tattoo on Weatherwax’s hand helped deputies determine it was Weatherwax in the surveillance footage. They found a picture of the tattoo on Weathwax’s hand on his Facebook page.
He was arrested at his home in The Villages.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $12,000 bond.
Weatherwax was jailed in Lake County on charges of fraud, dealing in stolen property and larceny in connection with a 2011 case. He was sentenced to two years, two months and 28 days in state prison with credit for 76 days already served in jail. He was released March 6, 2014 and moved into the Natchez Villas in The Villages.
