A Village of Rio Ponderosa woman had to be tasered Monday night when she attempted to attack a deputy investigating a traffic accident.

The Sumter County sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene of the accident shortly after 6 p.m. on County Road 109 when he encountered 50-year-old Michele Ludwig who lives on Juarez Place in The Villages.

She appeared to be intoxicated and was belligerent, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She was also bleeding from the left side of her forehead and had a swollen left eye. She became combative with the deputy and flailed her arms at him, the arrest report indicated. He was forced to use his taser on her. She was transported by EMS personnel to The Villages Regional Hospital to be evaluated for her injuries related to the crash.

She is being held on $10,000 bond on charges of battery of a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer.

Ludwig had been ticketed in 2014 following an accident on County Road 466.
