Damaged gate barriers

To the Editor:

How many gate barriers are laying damaged next to the gate entrances?

And while they get around to fixing or replacing them, they place a stop sign there.  This is supposed to take the place of the barriers temporarily and signal the drivers to come to a full  stop and then proceed through the gate.

These stop signs are completely ignored.  Today, I witnessed a vehicle going through the gate at Mallory Square without stopping.  And what was more disturbing, the driver was holding the wheel with his forearms while texting; oblivious to the fact he just ran a stop sign and to the traffic around him.   He continued on his merry way. It’s happening daily.

I can assure you that someday someone will get hurt or even killed.  These barriers get knocked down regularly and a stop sign is thought of as a temporary remedy?  Think again.
