Community Development District 8 supervisors are concerned about residents of their district who previously had cow pastures in their backyards, but now have a major construction site.
Residents of the Village of Tamarind Grove and the Village of St. James used to enjoy the pasture views, but all that has changed since the Trailwinds Development moved in on County Road 466A across from Pinellas Plaza.
The Villages had hoped to secure the property and build 800 homes, but Wildwood officials doused that dream last year. Instead, the city went with Trailwinds and Wholelife Properties.
Now, a Lowe’s, Aldi, other commercial development and housing are going up.
CDD 8 Chairman Sal Torname is concerned about residents and said he believed the builder has been “careless and inconsiderate.”
CDD 8 Supervisor Dennis Hayes concurred, and said he was concerned about dust being stirred up, landing on Villages’ streets and going into the storm drains.
“As an environmental engineer, this causes me some concern,” Hayes said.
But District Manager Janet Tutt said the only complaints which have been received from residents have been complaints about noise coming from the construction site.
Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said the contractor has been “going above and beyond.”
He said the builder has been using a water truck to water down the roadway to keep the dust down.
