Car involved in fatal hit-and-run on U.S. 301 was from The Villages

The car involved in a fatal hit-and-run early Tuesday morning on U.S. 301 was from The Villages, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The silver 2002 Honda four-door sedan was seized Wednesday from an address in The Villages, according to FHP.

The car is believed to be the same one that struck and killed 43-year-old Alexis Monroe of Summerfield at about 2 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 301 near Brown’s Country Market.

Monroe appeared to have been walking south in the right lane of U.S. 301 when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
