A 29-year-old man was arrested Friday morning in the parking lot of Cornerstone Hospice.

Jeffrey Barrett Glatman, who lives in The Quarters apartments in Lady Lake, had been spotted speeding and cutting in and out of traffic at 10:46 a.m. on County Road 466. When a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy activated his overhead lights, Glatman immediately stopped his vehicle on County Road 466, got out and started waving his hands at the deputy, asking to be arrested. He was also swearing, the arrest report indicated. The deputy ordered Glatman to get back into his vehicle and pull into the parking lot.

Once in the parking lot, he got back out of the vehicle and asked the deputy to put him in handcuffs so he could “feel safe.” He “continuously used obscenities and coarse language in the presence of numerous witnesses,” the report said.

While the deputy was trying to handcuff Glatman, he pushed the weight of his body at the deputy. Glatman is 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 320 pounds, according to the arrest report. Backup deputies arrived and Glatman was ordered to sit on the curb, which he did.

Four witnesses provided written statements and one witness recorded the incident on a smart phone.

Glatman was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting an officer. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,500 bond.
