A bandit was holed up this morning in a home in the Village of LaBelle North after an early morning stickup at Belle Glade Country Club.
The manager at the country club was leaving at about midnight when he was approached by a masked gunman, who reportedly pointed a gun at the manager’s face. The manager was carrying the night deposit.
A struggle ensued, the manager ripped off the gunman’s mask and recognized him. The two reportedly struggled for about 90 minutes.
When the gunman broke free, he fled with the night deposit and made his way to the Village of LaBelle North to the home of his girlfriend. He reportedly barricaded himself in the home.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office mobile command center and SWAT team were on the scene in the vicinity of Boardroom Trail.
Lt. Robert Siemer said the bandit is alone in the house.
A negotiator is in communication with the suspect.
A helicopter was circling the area near LaBelle North and Belle Glade Country Club.
Residents have been cautioned to stay away from the scene. A deputy has been stationed at the entrance to the Village of LaBelle North.
