Oxford man arrested on DUI charge after reportedly taking child on wild ride to school

Christopher Allen Beauchemin

An Oxford man was arrested on a drunk driving charge after reportedly taking a child on a wild ride to school.

A white passenger car was spotted by another motorist at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Lake Ella Road. The other motorist reported that the vehicle had nearly collided with the rear of his pickup truck, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The motorist continued to follow the vehicle which nearly collided head-on with three other vehicles. It continued into Fruitland Park where the child got out and walked into school.

It appeared the driver, 47-year-old Christopher Allen Beauchemin, had been under the influence and he provided breath samples that registered .232 and .233 blood alcohol content, according to the arrest report.

Beauchemin was arrested on charges of DUI and child neglect.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,000 bond.

In 2016, he had been arrested at an ATM in The Villages while on his way home from a strip club.
