66-year-old Water Oak woman wires $20,000 to man who she met on Facebook

A 66-year-old Water Oak woman wired $20,000 to a man she met on Facebook who later disappeared.

The woman told Lady Lake police she started the online relationship with “Richard Muhne” in April. Over several weeks, he told her about a job contract he’d won but needed money to afford the bond needed to start the work. In June, she wired the $20,000 to his Bank of America account in Atlanta, Ga. He slowly ceased communication with her over the next few months before deleting his Facebook page.

The Water Oaker sought out other women from the Facebook page and learned they had also been asked for money. One of the women had given him $29,000.

The man had told the Water Oaker he had wanted her to come live with him in Atlanta.
