A 39-year-old resident of the Village of Belvedere was arrested after he allegedly attacked an EMT who had arrived to treat the man’s stepfather.
Emergency personnel had been called at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday to Old Mill Run to a report of a person falling down. Once the EMT began rendering aid, the EMT was attacked by Roger Shane Gilbert who resides on Rosewell Place in The Villages. Gilbert interfered with the EMT’s attempt to help the man and even kicked the EMT in the groin, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Gilbert denied the attack, but witnesses backed up the EMT’s account.
Gilbert was arrested on a felony charge of battery of an EMT. He was booked on $5,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was bonded out of the jail at 2:44 p.m. Friday.
