Villagers forced to evacuate home after discovery of sinkhole

A Villages couple was forced to abandon their home Friday night after the discovery of a sinkhole on their property.

The sinkhole was discovered at a home at 1613 Duran Drive in the Village of Alhambra.

This sinkhole was discovered Friday at a home in the Village of Alhambra.

Sumter County building officials have posted an orange notice on the door of the home indicating that it is uninhabitable. The sinkhole is on the side of the house.

The Villages Public Safety Department, District Property Management and The Villages Insurance have also been at the home. Community Watch will be stepping up patrols in the neighborhood.

Emergency officials have taped off the area where the sinkhole occurred.

The home is owned by Eric and Lynn Ool, who purchased the property in 2014 for $162,500.
