A man with a history of mental health problems was arrested after a break-in early Thursday morning at a home in The Villages.
Derek Baum, 44, on Wednesday had been served with an injunction ordering him to stay away from his parents’ home in the 1200 block of Pompano Lane in the Village of Silver Lake, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Baum showed up at 2 a.m. Thursday and broke into their screened-in lanai. He was “yelling and screaming” and forced the occupants of the home to seek shelter in a rear bedroom. He had broken the lanai door, shattered a vase by knocking it from a table and knocked over several wicker tables, the report said.
Baum claimed police had no authority because the home was located on a an “Indian reservation.” He also denied having parents.
He was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and violation of a domestic injunction.
Baum had been Baker Acted twice in 2016 and twice in 2017.
His mother sought an order of protection in 2016, but asked that it be dissolved later that same year.
